California must not become the next Flint, MI! According to Reuters, lead poisoning among children in some California locales is higher than Flint, Michigan, a city ravaged by high levels of toxic lead. (Source:http://www.nbcnews.com/
We must get to the root of the problem. If it has to do with our water supply, then appropriate action must be taken by public utilities as they work for the people.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ADVOCATE FOR:
1. The City of San Diego & the San Diego Water Authority must allow independent inspectors who have good standing with the Sierra Club & Greenpeace to determine the cause and the necessary fixes.
2. The City and Public Utilities must implement the solutions proposed by the independent environmental inspectors as soon as logistically possible with no feet dragging – human beings are at stake.
3. If the problem is due to the water supply, the city must provide free high-quality, comprehensive sink & shower water filters (lead, arsenic, etc.) to all families in the affected areas, prioritizing elderly, pregnant women, and those with children under 8. This includes installment costs.
