Oftentimes our views of Mukhtar al-Thaqafi are shaped by the famous tv show about his life after the events of Karbala. However, history seems to show a more nuanced perspective of him. Was he truly a companion of the Imam’s or did he have a more sinister motive behind his actions? Were all his actions in line with the beliefs of the Imams of his time?
